Ella M. Hines Scholar

This scholarship is to honor the legacy of Ella M. Hines. She was very passionate about nursing. In 1985, she graduated from San Jacinto College with an Associate of Arts in Nursing and from Texas Women’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1991.  Mrs. Hines went to school while working full time and taking care of her five daughters and disabled husband.  Ella worked in many areas of nursing, and she was most compassionate in the HIV /AIDS population.  Ella overcame many obstacles in life while she encouraged others to pursue their education and career.  She was a change agent within her community promoting healthy living and health awareness. 

This scholarship will be given to someone who has overcome obstacles in their lives while pursuing their dreams.  The requirement for the applicant is as follows:

  1. African American female
  2. Overcome hardships
  3. Write a 250- 500-word essay answering these questions:
    1. What life experiences have shaped you into who you are today?
    2. What challenges have you overcome in achieving your education (i.e. financial, medical, personal, etc.)?
    3. Explain why you need financial assistance in pursuing your goal?

The recipient will be announced at the NBNPAMasquerade Holiday Scholarship Gala on December 7, 2019. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE
